Lake Monona History

The first annual Lake Monona was held in 1978 and is now in its 46th annual* event (*2020 was held virtually). With this being a springtime race, the event has seen all weather conditions - from rain, to extreme heat, and even snow/sleet. It IS Wisconsin after all! In 2007 Race Day Events acquired the Lake Monona 20K and added a post-race party including live music. In 2011, a 5K distance was added. Participants have grown to nearly 3000 over the years. Additionally, the Lake Monona 20K/5K has helped many charities since its inception and since Race Day Events has acquired the event, over $75,000 has been donated back to local charities.

About Race Day Events

Brad

Meet your Race Director

Brad joined Race Day Events in June of 2022 but has been in the event industry since 2008. He’s originally from Lake Mills, IA where he grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere but recently moved to Sun Prairie from Chicago where he spent the last 14 years producing mass participation running events. His favorite team is the Minnesota Vikings, but to distract from that he quickly mentions how he worked for the Packers one summer in high school and got to play catch with Brett Favre. In his free time, Brad enjoys spending time with his wife, son, and dog doing various outdoor activities.
